2014 Nieman Marcus PopSugar Must Have box review!

Whoaaaaa, the Nieman Marcus edition PopSugar Must Have Box just arrived last night and oh my GOD, it is good. It’s pretty steep at $250, but the reviews for last year’s box looked so great that I thought I’d take the risk. And it was totally worth it.

The box itself is huge and has a leather-effect finish.

And here are the contents:

Missoni Home Collection “Apothia” Candle in Monterossa ($88).Missoni Home Collection Apothia Candle in Monterossa

$88 is a lot of money for a candle, but I’m glad to have it if I’m not paying full retail. It’s about the size of a soup can, so it’s not some miniature candle. The votive features the signature Missoni Chevron pattern and the candle smells great. I like that I can reuse the glass votive once the candle has been used up.

Clare V.  Supreme Colorblock Fold-Over Clutch Bag ($220).Clare V Supreme Colorblock Fold-Over Clutch Bag

Love this! Between this bag and the candle, I’ve already received more than My $250 worth, and we’re nowhere near done. This clutch will go with tons of different outfits and is something that I would buy for myself. Very happy about this.

(Here’s my hand for scale).

Swing Design Mia Glass Hexagon Storage Box ($40).Swing Design Mia Glass Hexagon Storage Box in Ivory

This is not the type of thing that I would think to buy, but it seems like a very mature thing to have in my home. I’m still figuring out where to put it, but I’m glad to have it. It makes me feel like an adult.

The interior is felt lined, and it seems like it would be a good place to store jewelry.

MarieBelle Aztec Hot Chocolate Tin ($55 for a collection of 4).MarieBelle Aztec Hot Chocolate Tin

Yum. This has little cocoa nibs in it and is so rich and delicious. Way better than Swiss Miss powder.

Lancer The Method: Nourish ($125).Lancer The Method Nourish moisturizer

$125 moisturizer? I’m pretty intimidated by this. And excited.

Monica Rich Kosann Silver Plated Enamel Picture Frame ($100).Monica Rich Kosann Silver Plated Enamel Picture Frame

Again, this is not something I would have purchased for myself, but I really like it. It’s very minimalistic and looks nice next to the glass box. I’ll be putting them both next to each other once I figure out which room they’re going in.

Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Love ($33).Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Love

This is slightly thick, but smooth and non-sticky. It looks and feels really nice, and reminds me of Cargo’s gloss (which I loved back when I wore more gloss). It has a brush tip applicator, which makes me really happy. It’s smooth and moisturizing and gives a very pretty, subtle sheen.

Chantecaille Supreme Cils Longwear Water-Resistant Mascara ($52).Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss and supreme cils mascara

In addition to the gloss, I also received a mascara. I haven’t gotten to try this out yet, but I have high hopes (It’s a $52 mascara, after all). I’ll update my review once I wear it.

[UPDATE since writing this, I have used the mascara A LOT. It has really hard, short, spiky plastic bristles like Benefit’s They’re Real mascara (a little painful if you get deep into the root of your lashes, to be honest) and the effects are similar. That is to say, the effects are really excellent and provide major volume and length. In fact, I’ll sometimes skip this one if I’m going for a minimal look because my lashes will be so intense and Kardashian-esque. It also lasts really well without smudging (most mascaras smudge like crazy on me after about 30 minutes). So if you want a very intense, non-smudging mascara and have some money to burn, this is definitely an option.]

And that’s it! All in all, this box contains a $669 retail value and the products are very stylish. I think this was a nice way to treat myself, but this box could also be a good way to get a bunch of nice holiday gifts for friends and family.

Hurry if you want one, though! As of today, these are not sold out, but I don’t think these will last much longer.

November Golden Tote Review

Yaaaay, tote time came early! Since I placed a boutique order a few days before, my order was one of the first to ship, and my tote showed up on Monday, just a week after I ordered (this is lightening speed in GT terms).

This time I asked for darker colors and no short hemlines, since GT dresses are often hilariously inadequate for my frame. I had a new picker this time (MU, instead of KB who has picked my last few totes) and I think he or she did an awesome job! This is my best month ever, since I’m keeping almost everything with only two (maybe three) trades. For two totes to have so few throwbacks is definitely a major win.

Let’s start with chosen items:

Lovely Lace Top ($42)
Yassssss. This is so flattering and pretty and fun. I can wear it tucked into a skirt for work, or I can wear it out with my friends. It’s awesomely versatile. The lace sleeves are sheer, and the main body fabric looks like the same lace with a lining, but it’s actually a single piece of thick, heavy fabric. It seems like the lace is fused on top of it somehow. There’s a closeup below where I think you can see. Keeping this top.

Thankful Dress ($52)
This is not 100% flattering on me, but I still strangely like it. Those fringey tassels are hilarious (in a good way) and the whole thing is very comfortable. It actually makes it past my knees, too, so I don’t have to worry about flashing people! Keeping.

The drawstring for the waist was damaged, though. I’m not sure if I want to bother exchanging it or not. :/

Apple Picking Cardigan ($38)
I think this is fun and very warm. Keeping! Also pictured is the Layered Beaded Tassel Necklace ($27) from the boutique.

Coated Skinny Jeans ($42)
These are a size too tight (as I mentioned last time, I’m trying to get back down 10 pounds or so. I think these will look great once I do). The coating is only on the front and gives a leathery look, but it isn’t stiff or uncomfortable. The jeans felt great, even for a too-tight pair. Keeping.

Now the surprises!!! This month, I’m going to include the codes for each of my surprises. When your GT order is ready to ship, codes will appear on your account page that correspond with the surprise items. If you feel like peeking, the ladies of the GT Trading Facebook page have compiled a spoiler list of codes. So in case you’re waiting on a tote, I’ve included the corresponding codes for each item. Enjoy!

E2 – Renee C Maroon Tab Sleeve Top
Great everyday top with a flattering curved hem. Keeping.

E5 – Skies Are Blue Navy/ White Grid Sweater
I love this! The pattern is cool, the cut is flattering and I really like the unusual perforated seam that comes forward at an angle instead of straight down on the sides. I’m not sure if that makes sense, but check out the images. I’m actually wearing this today, so obviously I’m keeping it.

L12 – Mak B Black Surprise Shrug
I like a good cocoon sweater and the high neckline on this is great. Very soft and cozy. It’s a little bulky, but I don’t mind it. I’m keeping this one.

L14 – Mak B Navy Sweater with Elbow Patches
This is super cool. It’s flattering and really soft, but it snags easily. It actually arrived with a snag already (picture below), but it’s minor and I think I can fix it. This is a keeper.

V8 – Everly Striped Dress.
This is super short. Suuuuuper short. It’s a bit tight, too. The fabric is really nice, though, so I’m going to store it in the back of my closet and see if it ever gets worn. If not, it’ll get traded in a couple of months.

It looks better with a belt, albeit still too short/tight.

V2 – Fantastic Fawn 3/4 Sleeve Maxi Dress.
I was so excited at first because I love long sleeved dresses and this one is really high quality and soft and lined, but the cut is not for me. Empire waists are my natural enemy and this makes me look about 20 pounds heavier. Trading this one for sure!

Z8 – Le Lis Black and Ivory Striped Top
I like everything about this! Golden Tote nailed it with this one. Keeeeep.

F5 – Jealous Tomato Grey Wrap Top
This high-low, twist-front sweater is cool in theory, but the cropped front is just not something I can see myself wearing since it hits at an awkward place on me. Good quality, though, if only it were longer. Trading this guy.

October Golden Tote Review

GOLDEN TOTE TIME! As I mentioned in my last post, Tote time is my favorite time.

I went a little crazy this month, y’all. I stepped it up and bought two large totes, plus an add-on dress and a scarf. So much of my money gone. Or maybe not, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

I mostly like these, and there are a few I’m unsure about mainly because I put on a bit of weight over a really stressful couple of months which I expect to re-lose soon. In 10 pounds some of these should fit differently, which makes it hard to tell what I should keep. Since I have a billion pictures here, I’m keeping my comments to a minimum. Oh, and my regular camera is still missing, so now I have photoshop again, but cell phone pictures. Sorry, I’m doing what I can!

November Golden Tote preview!

The new boutique is up with all of the November items for your perusal, although the tote sale doesn’t go live until 9 AM PST this Monday, 11/3. There’s actually a good reason to do a little shopping now, though. This is a semi-secret that I learned from the GT community, but if you buy an accessory or add-on item (aka the remaining stock from past totes that are $35 and under) the weekend before the tote goes on sale, the shipping will be combined into one package, AND your item will ship out earlier than the rest.

I’m doing this because items do not hold in your cart, and I don’t want to risk an item selling out from my cart while I browse the scarves (which happened to me last month) and there are a few add-ons that I really want. Strategy, people!

By the way, I got my October tote last Friday and should have a review up tonight. Golden Tote time is my favorite.
