Because what goes better with a plaid shirt and candy-colored beads than “don’t talk to me” makeup? I was feeling blah today, so I went to my usual standby to perk me up. That would be tons of eyeliner, the thicker and darker, the better.
I used the bareMinerals Rocker Eye Kit ($38), foiling the pewter shade on wet, blending the glittery black into outer corners and wetting the matte black liner shade and lining around the entire eye for a cat’s eye shape. I added a bunch of mascara and a touch of black brow powder to frame the eye. The weather outside is really gloomy today, so I kind of got into my high-school goth mode and decided to flatten my complexion with a lot of powder (NYX HD Grinding Powder in Nude, $25) and no blush. I added Bare Escentuals 100% Natural Lipgloss in 7 Layer Cake ($15) to balance out the heavy eye. The powder is actually not as harsh as it looks in the pictures. Probably still pretty harsh, though.
My dog’s totally into it.
And now we’re all caught up. I’m enjoying a relaxing day at home, so today’s look is soft and dreamy. Most of it’s organic/natural/whatever, although that wasn’t really planned in advance.
Eyeshadow: bareMinerals eye color ($13) in High Style on the entire lid and browbone and in Pinot Noir buffed into the crease
Eyeliner: My absolute favorite BE liner shadow, bareMinerals Liner Shadow in Black Ruby ($13)
Mascara: Benefit BADgal Plum Mascara ($19)
Lips: Korres Cherry Full Color Lipgloss in 25 Natural Rose ($17)
Cheeks: Just a dab of the baby pink blush from NYX Makeup Artist Kit ($29.99)
Soft focus. Ooooo!
Last night I went to a roller skating birthday party (yes, that is as fun as it sounds), so I wore not one, but TWO shades of glitter eyeliner for the occasion. I started off with the three brown shades from the NYX Love in Paris 9 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Madelines and Macaroons ($9.99) to create a muted shimmery eye, then I used one of the glittery lavender shadows from the Be our Guest Maurice kit under the eye. I lightly lined the upper lashline and inner rim of the eye with Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyeliner in 0L Matte Black ($19). I typically use Urban Decay 24/7 liner because its black pigment is slightly more intense, but MUFE Aqua Eyes has better staying power for the waterline. I added a ton of L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black ($8.99) and swiped Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy AND Metalhead ($18) along the lower lashline.
I lightly brushed the darker matte bronzer from the NYX Makeup Artist Kit ($29.99) on cheekbones and applied Bare Escentuals 100% Natural Lip Gloss in Rose ($15) to lips. Roll bounce, baby.
It’s been a busy weekend, so I haven’t had time to post anything (still getting used to this posting every single day thing), but I have been taking pictures, so here’s the look from Friday, 2/25/11.
I knew I was going to have a late night, so I kept my makeup light and fresh to a: help me look light and fresh when I was tired and b: prevent dark eyeliner from sliding down my face and making my dark circles that much worse. These pictures were taken around 3 AM (I look sleepy!) as I was getting ready to go home, so you can see how well it held up.
I was wearing a copper shade and a light gold from the NYX Love in Paris 9 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Pardon my French ($9.99 – steal of the century), L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black ($8.99), a bright peach blush from the Sephora Collection Color Diary “Meditation Retreat” Palette ($25) and Bare Escentuals 100% Natural Lip Gloss in Rose ($15)
Today’s mission was to take a purple smoky eye with glitter and try to make it not completely ridiculous for work. Granted, I have an office where I can get away with a lot, but it’s still a purple smoky eye with glitter. So far the boss hasn’t said anything, so I think I’m safe.
I used the pale gold, light glittery purple, iridescent purpley-white and matte black shades from Kat Von D’s True Romance palette in True Love ($34) to create the smoky eye. I skipped the eyeliner, and just pushed a little black eyeshadow into the lashline in an effort to make this a little more office-appropriate. I topped it off with L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black ($8.99) and snuck Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy ($18) in the inner corners of the eye for extra POW.
I skipped the blush and just shaded under my cheekbones with Stila’s Countour Trio (discontinued), then lightly dotted Benefit High Beam ($26) on my forehead, upper lip and the apples of my cheeks.
Lastly I dabbed on a little Rosebud Perfume Co. Minted Rose Lip Balm ($5.59) on lips and voilà!
Today’s look is simple AND cheap (just like the author, ZING!). I used a wash of NYX Single Eyeshadow in Tropical ($4.49) and topped it off with the eggplant shade from Sonia Kashuk’s Lay It On The Line Eyeliner palette ($12.99) and my standard L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black ($8.99). Sweep NYX HD Grinding Blush in Terracotta ($15) across cheeks, the bridge of your nose and along hairline, add a swipe of Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in 03 Reflex She Sparkles ($14) on lips and you’re done!
If you can find the eyeliner palette (it’s out of stock from time to time), I’d definitely recommend it. I’m a big fan of cake eyeliner and it’s so hard to find these days. 5 shades in a portable palette for only $13 is quite a find!
I do my eyeliner like this a LOT, so get used to it. I’m also obsessed with the way the eyeliner shape looks different depending on the angle, so today I’m including three pictures (also because it’s hard to see the eyeshadow and I really love the color). But I can’t get enough of this eyeliner shape because it’s so many things at once, and all of it’s pretty. It can look swoopy and cat-like or it can be elegant and “humped” over a closed eye. That’s one of the most fun parts of makeup, working on a three-dimensional surface means you have to consider every angle when you put everything together. It’s like a puzzle.
Today’s product list includes:
Eyeliner- Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero ($19),
Eyeshadow and blush – Sephora Collection Color Diary “Relax and Unplug” Palette ($25) ***This is currently on clearance at Sephora and I highly recommend it – get it while it lasts! Definitely the best of their interchangeable palette sets.***
Mascara- L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black ($8.99)
Lipgloss- Korres Lip Butter in Pomegranate ($12) with Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in 03 Reflex She Sparkles ($14) layered on top.
